Thriving and highly skilled shipbuilders are a prerequisite for our competitiveness and our entire operation. We treat all our 2,300+ professionals equally and according to the same principles, and the social criteria we set for ourselves apply to our entire network. We continuously develop our safety culture, and we support the competence development of our personnel in a variety of ways.

A large number of top professionals from a variety of fields work at our shipyard, ranging from production and design experts to firefighters and nurses. In 2025, the Meyer Turku Oy Group had a total of 2,300+ employees. We also employ many summer employees and interns each year, and the shipyard area also hosts a significant number of personnel from our partners.

Results of our personnel survey have improved in all important areas in recent years. Improvements have been particularly notable in how employees feel about their job, the work community and managerial work. Our long-term efforts to develop well-being at work, managerial work and work communities have yielded results.

Safety culture concerns everyone

Safety culture concerns everyone

Our top professionals work in a demanding industrial environment. That is why the safety and work capacity of our personnel are essential strategic priorities. We redefine our safety objectives annually and monitor them systematically.

Matters related to safety are addressed across all organisational levels. Shipbuilders and our network employees make their own safety observations. We investigate all serious situations thoroughly and specify remedies for them. We aim to identify, assess and manage various risk factors in advance and as exhaustively as possible.

Our operating environment is in transition, and adapting to the changes requires that our employees continuously improve their skills. That is why we support their learning with versatile training and learning methods, including manager coaching, job rotation, mentoring and on-the-job learning. Our own Shipbuilding School provides training for both new experts and experienced professionals.

We are also highly motivated to offer students experiences of working life, ensure availability of skilled labour and improve the appeal of the maritime industry. We are engaged in long-term cooperation with universities, universities of applied sciences and upper secondary education institutes, aiming to combine high-quality research, education and practical shipyard skills.

Diversity and equality at the shipyard

Meyer Turku advances equality and diversity with a long-term perspective, in accordance with both legal obligations and its own operating principles. Our equality and non-discrimination plan specifies the principles and tangible measures designed to ensure a fair, non-discriminatory and inclusive work environment.

Our network’s social criteria

We require our network to commit to our social criteria, which we have specified in our Supplier Code of Conduct. That is why we assess all our significant new suppliers from a social responsibility perspective. In the assessment, we examine the supplier’s ability to meet our requirements regarding human rights, working conditions, ethical conduct and sustainability.
