Jaakko Eskola appointed Executive Chair of the Board of Directors for Meyer Turku Oy
Jaakko Eskola has been appointed Executive Chair of the Board of Directors for Meyer Turku Oy.
“With Jaakko Eskola, we engage a proven professional who has an international maritime background and is well established in the Finnish industry. He will play a crucial part in our continuous journey of developing Turku Shipyard further. We have taken several steps in order to return to profitability, especially last year was very busy while we continuously developed the yard and processes. We implemented the last stage of a modern ERP system, developed our organization further and relaunched an improvement program, just to name some. As a result of all this, we are looking forward to announcing our 2024 results later in the spring”, comments Tim Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku Oy.

Jaakko Eskola has worked for Wärtsilä for 23 years, most recently as the Group CEO. He has also held various positions of trust, such as Chairman of the Board at Varma (since 2022), Kalmar Oyj (since 2024), Suominen (2021-2024) and Cargotec (2022-2024). Jaakko Eskola holds a Master of Science in Engineering.
The Meyer Turku Oy shipyard is specialized in the construction of very demanding, innovative, and environmentally efficient cruise ships, car ferries, and special vessels. Our share of the global cruise construction market is approximately 10%, and our shipyard's order books extend to 2026. Our largest customers are Royal Caribbean International, TUI Cruises, the Finnish Border Guard andCarnival Cruise Line.
