You must be physically fit and healthy to train and work with us. Health conditions that may involve sudden and unexpected drops in the level of consciousness or losses of balance are a safety risk in shipyard work. Such conditions include diabetes, epilepsy and Ménière’s disease. Working in the shipyard also requires a strong musculoskeletal system and its constant maintenance.
In shipyard work, employees are exposed to air contamination – even though wearing protective equipment is required. You can also be exposed to chemicals and dust through your skin. Therefore, respiratory diseases, allergies and atopy are obstacles to working in the shipyard.
Employees agree to work in shifts when necessary. Thus, the applicant must not have any health conditions that worsen due to changes in the circadian rhythm or irregular mealtimes. Such health conditions include difficult sleep disorders and inflammatory intestinal disorders.
To ensure occupational safety, we require all our employees in production to know the basics of the Finnish language.
Although the majority of our jobs are technical, we also employ a number of experts from other fields. For example, we need experts for our legal department, finance department, HR department, procurement department and IT department.
In production, we usually have a two-shift model with 40 hours per week. In other areas, there is no shift work, and the weekly working time is generally 37.5 or 40 hours.
Buses of Turku region public transport stop regularly at the shipyard gate according to our shift hours.
At the moment, we have two staff cafeterias, one of which is also open for night-shift workers. In addition, you can keep and heat up packed meals in our staff rooms.
The Turku region continues to grow at a record pace. There are currently around 20,000 companies in Turku, and the city has a population of approximately 200,000. In total, the Turku region—including Kaarina, Lieto, Masku, Mynämäki, Naantali, Nousiainen, Paimio, Raisio, Rusko and Sauvo—is home to about 347,000 people. You can find more information about Turku on the city’s official website.
